[...] Al re [Charles IX de Valois] avvenne ultimamente che essendo alla caccia et coprendo il cervo et il medesimo facendo un alemano nominato Ciasselenghe, sopragiongendo tutti due ad un colpo, et alzando il braccio ditto alamano con un coltellaccio per ferire il cervo non poté ritenere il braccio che diede un colpo sopra il braccio del re, il quale se non havesse havuto una bona veste di lupo, et un colletto di bufalo con le maniche et un grosso gippone con le maniche con molto bambagio dentro come haveva, mandava giù il braccio al re. Però hebbe poco male, et solamente restò ferito et sene ritornò in Pari, ove va solo col braccio al collo. L'alemano fatto il colpo, si gettò a terra domandando perdono a Sua Maestà et il re li perdonò poi esso alemano sen'è ito in Allemagna, benché fusse molto ben visto dal re et fratelli. [...]
Synopsis
AVVISO from Rome reporting news from Antwerp, Lyon, Sparendam, Nijmegen - Description of a hunting accident in which were involved King Charles IX de Valois and a German called Ciasselenghe [maybe Kiessling]. The heavy clothing carried by the king saves him from losing an arm while hunting deer.
